Merimbula Oyster Experience
Meet your host James Wheeler and be whisked to the Wheeler Oysters Farm, set amid the breathtaking backdrop of the Merimbula Lake on the Sapphire coast.
Don a pair of oversized waders and shuffle waist-deep into the estuary to explore this working oyster farm, where you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the meticulous processes involved in cultivating and harvesting these treasures of the sea. Learn about marine ecology and the vital role oysters play in maintaining the delicate balance of this unique ecosystem. Then, watch as fresh oysters are shucked before your very eyes or take the chance to learn how, ready for you to wash down with a glass of Australian sparkling. Set upon an immersed, white-clothed table, this is a true farm-to-table experience in the most spectacular of settings. $250 per person.
KAYAK & SHUCK - PAMBULA LAKE
Combine two of the best experiences on Yuin Country; a Kayaking tour and Oyster Journey near Eden and Merimbula.
Starting at the stunning Pambula River Mouth, this kayak tour is perfect for anyone, regardless of kayaking experience. Our expert kayak guide will be there to show you the ropes, and as you paddle up the river, they will point out some of the wildlife and natural features of the Beowa National Park. At Broadwater Oysters, an award-winning Sydney Rock Oyster farm, you’ll have the opportunity to learn all about oysters and how to shuck them. The team at Broadwater will discuss why oysters are so precious, how they grow, and how the flavours change with the seasons, as well as the best time for handling, storing, and opening (shucking) Sydney Rock Oysters. If you’re not a fan of oysters, we’ll substitute your oysters for a local cheese tasting platter.
